It begins with the familiarity of the plot of the original film, but the movie’s meta-review will make it feel more complex and meaningful. The Matrix Resurrections is an ambitious, meta-review of the original trilogy. The movie’s cast is a little confusing and the story is rather boring, but it’s not a bad effort overall. Laurence Fishburne’s Morpheus is no longer played by Laurence Fishburne, but by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. While Resurrections mainly focuses on the first film’s main character Trinity, Resurrections does throw in new versions of previously beloved characters. The opening homage sends a powerful message against the media industry and the film’s overly-complicated plot. The premise is intriguing and the film opens with an iconic scene from the first film. Otherwise, you’ll probably be wasting your time watching this movie.ĭespite the gloomy tone and unsatisfying characters, The Matrix Resurrections is a solid sequel to the original. Whether it’s a new interpretation of the movie’s symbolism or a new interpretation of some of the same ideas, it’s important to have a solid background in the original films. The Matrix Resurrections is a very dense film, and it seems to be a meta-review of the original trilogy.
